Repreve Fabric to be used in Ford Focus Electric

E-mail

Repreve ImageRepreve fabric, made with a hybrid blend of recycled materials, manufactured by Unifi and used by Polartec, has found another use. The seat fabric of the Ford Focus Electric.

The fabric uses the equivalent of 22 plastic water bottles on the seats of a single Focus Electric. Ford is the first automaker to use Repreve branded fiber as covering for seats.

Beyond using Repreve fabric the Ford Focus is green, operating on battery power alone, using no gasoline and producing zero carbon dioxide emissions.

In 2009 Ford mandated that fabric suppliers use a minimum of 25 percent recycled content for all car models that year and beyond. Ford has expanded on that mandate, declaring that vehicles with eco-conscious powertrains, such as a the Focus Electric must use fabrics that are 100 percent sustainable.

Repreve has met all of Ford's performance standards and the automaker is already is considering other uses for Repreve across its entire car and truck lineup.
