Polartec and Unifi Partner with 100% Post Consumer Waste Yarn

Polartec, LLC and public company Unifi, Inc. have partnered to introduce performance fabrics made with Repreve 100 yarn. Unifi’s Repreve 100 is made from 100 percent post-consumer waste (clear plastic water bottles), and every pound of the yarn contains about 27 water bottles. Polartec President Andy Vecchione anticipates that Repreve 100-based Polartec fabrics will be available to consumers in the spring of 2011. Through this partnership, Unifi and Polartec hope to raise the visibility of recycling and encourage consumers to adopt more eco-friendly practices.
