Recon Instruments kicks off 2012 with new partnerships and investments spurred by the success of its Micro Optics Display (MOD) technology. Recon has received a combined $10 million investment from Vanedge Capital and Kopin Inc. The investors were intrigued by Recon's recent success with the Android-powered MOD Live near-eye device that provides skiers and riders with a variety of data including speed, navigation, jump analytics, buddy tracking, text messages and viewfinder functionality for point-of-view cameras.
At the Outdoor Retailer (OR) and Snow Industries America (SIA) shows, Recon Instruments debuted new goggles compatible with MOD and MOD Live displays in partnership with Smith Optics and Scott Sports. The displays utilize GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, altimeter and temperature sensors to provide skiiers and riders with precise measurements and readings in real-time.
