Brooks-Range has updated its Ski Guide Cards (SGCs) by working with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education, American Avalanche Association and American Mountain Guides Association.
Jeff Blakely, general manager of Brook-Range notes that the cards do not replace course work but rather serve as an emergency reference. The cards reiterate information that certified mountain guides or backcountry enthusiasts should know.
The cards cover a number of scenarios including avalanche safety and mountaineering travel guidelines. Information is also provided by the cards on avalanche hotlines and links to conversion charts for elevation, wind chill factor and temperature. It gives outdoor aficionados a checklist of current skills and a review of skills that may need to be refreshed or learned.
