Midwest Mountaineering Supports Local Land Acquisition With Grant

E-mail

The Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota has received a $10,000 grant from Midwest Mountaineering, a 42 year old specialty shop in Minneapolis, MN through the store's Wildlands Acquisition Voting Contest. Other organizations up for the the grant were The Minnesota Land Trust and the The Nature Conservancy of Minnesota.

Each of the three organizations submitted a land acquisition project and customers were asked to vote for the most deserving project. After the votes were tallied, 6,000 in total, The Parks and Trails Council emerged victorious.

The grant will assist in the acquisition of a key parcel of land, allowing a bridge to be built connecting two parks. This key bridge will extend a bike trail and allow for a canoe portage to be created.

In December 2011, Midwest Mountaineering also awarded its Employee Environmental Grants. A total of over $6,000 was awarded to these organizations: Boundary Waters Advisory Committee, Carpenter Valley Nature Center, Friends of the Boundary Waters, Minnesota Audubon, Project Success, Sierra Club: Inner City Outings, Superior Hiking Trail Association, Venturing Crew 3309.
