The 2010 Banff Radical Reels Tour, featuring high-adrenaline outdoor adventure films, returns to the Roanoke Region Sept. 15 at Jefferson Center. Last year’s showing sold out, prompting a larger venue this year.
Radical Reels is a popular component of Canada’s Banff Mountain Film Festival. This annual film tour shows footage in skiing, climbing, kayaking, BASE jumping, snowboarding and mountain biking. Altogether, the tour visits approximately 19 states and provinces, reaching over 35 different locations. Most screenings take place from September to October and February to May.
The film caps off an Outdoor Expo showcasing the region’s many outdoor assets. It will be shown at 7 p.m. on Sept. 15, with proceeds benefiting the Jefferson Center. The Outdoor Expo will be held the same evening from 5-7 p.m. The expo is an opportunity for the community to meet the various outfitters, guides, clubs, and learn about opportunities available to them.
“Radical Reels features some outdoor adventures people only dream of,” says Pete Eshelman, director of outdoor branding for the Roanoke Regional Partnership. “It’s also a great way to bring people together and showcase some of the adventures available right in our backyard as we continue to build an outdoor brand.”
