The Venus de Miles Cycling Event takes place this year on August 29 in Boulder, CO. It offers women of all ages and skill level a chance to raise money for Greenhouse Scholars, a non-profit organization bringing support programs to high-performing, under-resourced students. Participants' fundraising efforts will help provide scholarships, mentorship, leadership training, and more for Colorado college students through Greenhouse.
Venus de Miles has also committed to be a Zero Waste event. Only recyclable and compostable materials will be distributed on-site, and Zero Waste stations will be available throughout the event for public use. Bib numbers and goody bags will be made from recycled materials, food and drink will be localled sourced, and the shuttle bus will run on bio diesel.
This year there are expected to be about 3,000 participants, and Greenhouse Scholars is predicted to raise nearly $100,000 in 2010 for 16 deserving college students. For more information about registration, donations, and details about the event check out www.venusdemiles.com.
