Bozeman, Montana is preparing to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Arc'teryx Bozeman Ice Festival. The festival kicks off the 2011-2012 ice season on December 7th through the 11th. Jeff Lowe will be the special guest among the various ice climbing athletes and will be honored for his life accomplishments and role as a mixed climbing visionary.
Lowe will be joined by climbing greats such as Barry Blanchard, Will Gadd, Henry Barber, John Bragg, Joe Josephson, Kitty Calhoun and many more making appearances and presentations. In addition to meeting climbers, attendees can take advantage of Bozeman's Hyalite Canyon which offers excellent ice climbing. The festival will hold four days of on-ice clinics for all ranges of abilities and even a women's specific day. The clinics are sure to fill up fast so reserve a spot early on the Bozeman Ice Festival website.
Local guides will be on hand from Montana Alpine Guides and Andes Mountain Guides. Brands such as Arc'teryx, Outdoor Research, Black Diamond, Patagonia, La Sportiva, Mammut, Petzl and Scarpa will be offering demos of their gear and clothing.
The Hyalite Canyon will have plenty of space for individual climbers not participating in a clinic. But at the end of the day everyone comes together for evening events.“Ladies Night” will take place on Thursday, December 8 with proceeds from the gear raffles and beer sales supporting the nonprofit Friends of Hyalite. The following two nights will be a special two-part multimedia historical retrospective on ice climbing in North America.
