The sixth edition of the Asia Outdoor industry trade show took place this July 27-30 in Nanjing China. It broke records with attendance of 19,180 (up 17.5 percent), 452 exhibiting brands (up 26 percent) and 405 media representatives. The square footage alone, 452,000 square feet, was a 31 percent increase from the 2010 show.
Whereas in the past visitors from eastern China have been dominant, this year organizers noted increases in visitors from the north and west of the country. On the exhibitor's side, Chinese products are increasing market strength. Toread, China's first publicly traded outdoor brand, is planning 950 stores by year's end and will exceed China's previous market leaders, The North Face and Columbia, in revenues and number of retail outlets.
"The Asia Outdoor is growing at the same pace as the market and is well on its way to becoming the world’s number three among the big outdoor trade shows, after the Outdoor Friedrichshafen, the leader, and Outdoor Retailer in the US,” observes Kurt Jaeger, founder of Asia Outdoor together with Messe Friedrichshafen.
