The Access Fund has added Curt Shannon as Arizona Policy Analyst to oppose the Oak Flat Land Exchange Bill. This bill will trade 2,400 acres of public land for 5,300 acres held by a mining company who wishes to create a large copper mine.
Shannon will work through the Access Fund to advocate on behalf of climbers who enjoy the area's roped routes and thousands of boulder spots. He has been working with The Access Fund since 2004 as they've attempted to maintain recreational access to the Oak Flat area.
The bill, known officially as HR 1904 still needs to be passed by the U.S. Senate and then signed by the President to become a law.
