Alpenglow Sports has launched their 2011 Lake Tahoe Backcountry Vertical Challenge. The Challenge is the first ever free, community-wide fundraising initiative to benefit the Sierra Avalanche Center. Alpenglow has challenged the Tahoe backcountry community to reach a cumulative goal of 15 million feet of human-powered uphill travel.
The event began in November and runs through April 30, 2012. If Tahoe backcountry enthusiasts are able to reach the 15 million foot mark Alpenglow Sports will make a $3000 donation to the Sierra Avalanche Center.
Podium prizes will also be awarded for the top three men and women, as well as the best camera edit of the event. Skiers or riders that register data will be eligible for a free bi-monthly raffle. Sponsors include: Black Diamond, Scarpa, G3, Marmot, Suunto, Clif Bar, Smith Optics, Rotefella and Honey Stinger.
