The Outdoor Foundation has released its Outdoor Nation Special Report on America’s Great Outdoors to the Obama Administration. The Report was compiled based on information from the Outdoor Nation Youth Summit held in June, which brought more than 500 youth from across the country to champion the outdoors and serve as a listening session for President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors Initiative.

The Outdoor Nation Special Report on America’s Great Outdoors offers recommendations to the president to better engage youth in the outdoors. This includes collaborating with the Department of Education to engage schoolchildren in outdoor learning activities; increasing safe and accessible green spaces, particularly in low-income communities; and providing resources to parents and caregivers that address the barriers allowing unstructured outdoor play. It also recommends strengthening outreach to new audiences through high-tech communications such as social media in order to increase visibility of parks and natural spaces.
