Outdoor Industry AssociationThe United States Senate has passed the U.S. Manufacturing Enhancement Act of 2010, better known as the miscellaneous tariff bill (MTB).

This means that the $21 million in cost savings set in place by the 2006 MTB will be extended at least another 18 months, marking a major legislative victory not only for OIA, but for the industry and consumers.  OIA has been contacting dozens of Congressional representatives to encourage passing of the bill, and ultimately the vote of consent was unanimous.

The MTB covers many outdoor products, including ski and snowboard equipment, footwear, bicycle parts and accessories.  Many of the included bills are extensions of expired tariff suspensions.  Fortunately, an included provision makes the bill retroactive to January 1, 2010, and reimbursements can be filed for previously paid duties.
