The American Hiking Society (AHS) has announced the schedule for their 50 trail-building getaways as part of their 2012 Volunteer Vacations program.
With a registration fee of $275 covering food, tools, park entrance fees, and a one-year membership with AHS, volunteers can choose from a wide range of projects, locations, and accommodations for their week-long trip.
For newcomers, the Mt. Baker – Snoqualmie National Forest trip in July offers indoor lodge accommodations in the Pacific Northwest. More outdoor-savvy volunteers in search of a rugged adventure may gravitate toward the Sawtooth National Forest trip in Idaho in August.
Tropical destinations such as the Hawaii Nature Center trip in August or the St. John, Virgin Islands trips in November and December are also available.
With a crew of 6-15 volunteers and the guidance of an experienced crew leader, American Hiking’s Volunteer Vacations and combine trail rehabilitation with outdoor adventuring.
